Barry started his first season playing for Rotherham Titans in July 2006 and Sci-MX is privileged to be associated with him at the start of his UK rugby career.
He was first selected to play for the South African provincial team “The Free State” in 1998, and then selected for The South African U21 squad in 1999. In 2000 he was also selected to play in the South African students’ league. From 2001 to 2005 he played for the Eagles in the Vodacom Cup, where he gained 89 caps. In 2006 he also became part of the Southern Spears Super14 franchise.
During the same period from 2001 to 2003, Barry also played for the SA Sevens squad and was part of the team that ended up in second place on the IRB’s World Rankings in 2001, which is the best position a South African Sevens team has ever achieved. Barry was also one of the players nominated for South Africa’s Sevens player of the year in 2001.
