Britain’s fittest rugby international... Pat Sanderson is Captain for Worecester Warriors. Sci-MX is the official sports supplement provider for the premiership rugby team, for the 2007/2008 season. This includes branding on players’ jerseys, with matches to be televised on Sky Sports.
I really like GAK-MX and Tribulus Super Strength, the combination of the two help to keep me feeling strong and motivated, especially during hard training weeks.
Average training day
2 sessions every day which include weights and speed work, followed by a rugby and conditioning session.
Pre-match routine
I’m quite a superstitious person but diet in particular is really important leading up to, and on game day. I always start the day off with an egg white omelette and a bowl of porridge.
Most memorable moment
There are one or two, but winning the Hong Kong Sevens is hard to beat.
Aspirations / goals
2007 is a huge year in rugby, the World Cup is a big focus and there’s a lot to live up to after the last one!
Sporting hero (why)
Not sure I’ve got one. There are quite a few I admire, Lance Armstrong for his attention to detail, Steve Redgrave for his mental strength, but my inspiration comes from my Dad.
Brief biography
I first started playing rugby at Chester at the age of four. 25 years ago!
Always a keen supporter of Sale Rugby club, I signed for them when I left school at 18.
I spent 3 years at Sale under the coaching of John Mitchell. Whilst at Sale I toured with England in 1998.
It was on this tour that I got my first 4 caps.
A year later I signed for Harlequins of London where I stayed for six years and experienced some success, two European Challenge cups and perhaps the hardest loss of my career in losing to Newcastle in injury time in Pilkington Cup.
Whilst at Quins I had some fantastic experiences playing and captaining the England Sevens team all over the world, winning many tournaments, but most importantly the Hong Kong Sevens, the unofficial annual world cup of sevens, an incredible experience and perhaps the highlight of my career to date.
In 2005 I made a move to newly promoted Worcester, a move which proved to be a real success for me. A fresh environment and a new challenge. Whilst playing at Worcester I have captained two England tours and have been capped a further 11 times.”
